I wasn't able to answer your call for tattoos on time due to the fact that I was on ship (USS Essex) as part of BLT 3/5 attached to the 31st MEU. I just got back to Camp Hansen, Okinawa as part of the battalion's advanced party back to the states. It's been a hell of a past 8 months being with the 31st MEU, first coming out to Okinawa for the first time from Camp Pendleton in early December and missing Christmas with my new wife, then hopping on ship and heading to Thailand for exercise Cobra Gold, to going to the Philippines for exercise Balikatan, then to Australia to participate in exercise Talisman Saber. Now that I am back in Japan and will soon be heading back to California as this deployment comes to an end I was catching up on reading the newsletters I missed while on ship and I have to say I'm pretty dissapointed that I missed the deadline for the tattoo pics. Anyways I thought I would still share my pictures with you, I have two moto tats, first one being on my chest and is a skull with crossed rifles and the letters USMC which you posted on your site a little over a year ago (Volume 22 in the tats section) but I have a few more including a pic of it being done and one of me with Justing Owens the man that did it. I also have a second moto tat on my right arm that I got shortly before I finished mos school and hit the fleet, it is the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor with the words Teufel Hunden under it. Even though it's to late to have them included I just thought I'd share them with you as they are reminders that I am a part of the proudest and best organization in the world, the United States Marine Corps, thank you for everything yall do. I also attached a few pics of us in the Philippines.

USMC Bulldog Tattoo

Bulldog and USMC tattoo

Hi,

I'm emailing about the article regarding tattoos for the history channel.

I have attached a photo of my tattoo which I originally had made in January of 1987, days after graduating from bootcamp in MCRD San Diego, CA.

It had faded and lost all of it's color in the 22 years since, so I had it redone just last week at my best friends tattoo studio.

Corps Tats

Emblem and Cadeuse tattoo

This ink was done at a shop called Alien Ink in Memphis TN. It depicts an EGA superimposed on a Cadeuses. I may not have had any combat time, however, I know my Marines were well trained and fully capable. I wear it proudly for all my brothers.

PFC Trenton Brawner

Stylized Emblem tattoo

Hi,

These are photos of PFC Trenton Brawner receiving his first tattoo in June of 2006. He had just graduated from Marine Corps boot camp at MCRD San Diego in May 2006, and was at home in Colorado on leave at the time. He is now a USMC Lance Corporal and is currently serving his second deployment, stationed with the 13th MEU on the USS Boxer (flagship for the multinational anti-piracy task force, CTF 151).
Thanks and Semper Fi!

Proud Marine Wife

Proud Marine Wife tattoo

Here is my submission for the show. I got this while my husband was deployed to Iraq with his Michigan National Guard unit in 2005. It says proud "military" wife, because he's a prior service Marine & I didn't really want to put "Army" in it's place! LOL Hubby served active duty Marine Corp 91-95, with an 8 year break in service before joining the Guard in 2003.

Thanks for taking the time!

My USMC tattoo I got 11 years ago in 29 Palms.

Eagle, Globe, and Anchor with Officer saber and Enlisted saber

Eagle, Globe, and Anchor, which displays both an officer’s saber and an enlisted saber.

My son, Robert M Locke, wanted to be a Marine officer, but couldn’t wait until college graduation, so he enlisted and pulled a combat tour in Ramadi, before receiving his commission last year. Here he is in high resolution as a 2nd lieutenant, sporting his Eagle, Globe, and Anchor, which displays both an officer’s saber and an enlisted saber.

EGA Tattoo photo

Harley style eagle on EGA tattoo

Here is a photo of my Eagle Globe and Anchor.
It was done in Santa Ana California, in a friend's house. I think his name was John. Sometime in 1988 or 1989 He had already drawn the eagle sitting on a Harley motor and simply replaced the motor with the Globe and anchor. Feel free to share this with the History channel project, post it on your own Tattoo page, or discard.

Robbie Hays

My story goes like this.

My name is Robbie Hays, Corporal USMC (Nov 10,1985 - Jan,1988.)
Unit # TRK CO. HQ. BN. 2nd Mar Div. Camp Lejune, NC
I grew up in a family of Marines, my great uncle served on IWO, he witnessed both flags raising's. I had two uncles that served in the Vietnam War.

I enlisted in 1985 in plans to be a lifer, until the dreaded day came of a grenade M67, blew up 10 feet from me. To this day, I still carry shrapnel in me on my right side of my foot, ankle, and arm. My lifer plans then changed as I was discharged in 1988.

This tattoo is a tribute to all Marines past, present, and future. God's speed to the USMC!

Thank You,
Robbie Hays

Sgt Derieux

Sgt Derieux's tattoos

Good Morning Sergeant Grit,
Here are my submissions for the History Channel's Series, Marked. To explain some of my tattoos:
-The Fallen Hero Memorial Tattoo on my left shoulder is dedicated to the 38 Marines, Sailors and soldiers that I personally know and have died in Combat, but especially for my best friend in the Marine Corps, Lance Corporal Benjamin R. Gonzalez, Jr.

Pain is weakness tattoos on forearms -The 1st Marine Division tattoo on my right arm is for the unit which I spent most of my time in, I also plan to place the 2nd Marine Division tattoo on my left arm in the same location to represent the time I spend in Iraq with them.

-The E5/Sergeant rank insignia on my right forearm stands for my final rank in the Marine Corps.

SGt and Ribbon tattoos on forearms -The "Pain is Weakness Leaving the Body," on my left and right forearm stands for the quote that motivated me to get through many tough obstacles throughout my Marine Corps career. It was the only t-shirt that I wanted from my Recruiter when I enlisted, and I never got it, so I went one step above and got it permanently tattooed on my body.

-The Ribbons tattooed on my right forearm represent the ribbons I've earned while in service with the United States Marine Corps.

Semper Fidelis,
Anthony P. Derieux
